So I arrived from Peru in a dodgy state, I got food poisoning while I was there lol. I threw up in the toilet at a restaurant for lunch one day and it was downhill from there lol. Plus with the 25 hour journey from Peru to Chile (connecting flights) I was not going okay haha, once we landed in Santiago mum couldn't handle it anymore and we payed for a few hours at the hotel at the airport again and napped for like 3 hours before having to get our domestic flight to La Serena where our apartment is. I have this problem when I haven't slept enough and I have to get up, I feel crazy nauseous for awhile until my body adjusts to being awake again. Except combine that with gastro and you've got me throwing up 10 mins before we need to check in at the airport. Lol one of the worst flights I've ever taken haha. Plus there was all this ash drama at the same time, bah I did not feel well. But that's all sorted now and I feel heaps better. Bahaha but man, my stomach was not cooperating, I hadn't eaten anything for 19 hours and I threw up chunks, it was just sitting there in my stomach not budging. GROSS.
Anyway we got back to La Serena and just kinda lounged around a bit that weekend coz I still felt like shit. I went and saw my grnparents on my own this time to apologize for all the fucking drama that happened for my grandads bday and for leaving like that. I bought him a glucometer so he can check his BSL and we caught up for a little and then I rushed home because me and mum were meant to go see my cousin play in his hardcore band but geh, mum had gone out and by the time she got back it was too late. SO BUMMED. The music was crapola but still it would have been mad to see the scene here. Lol it's cute, I've seen so many old school emo kids around, like on the cusp of becoming scene kids. But my cousin swung around after his gig and we caught up. I hadn't seen him in like 4 years and he just had a kid the other week and we talked heaps. Lol it was all emotional and teary coz his family has had a lot of dramas the last 3 years and well..forever but it was sad. He's the son of my other cousin who I said had the brain tumour and all that jazz. Lots of problems there and his brother is 19 and still lives at home with his mum and it's just them two but the kids a fuckup, all he does is smoke weed and party. Kid needs to man up a bit, his mum can't work and the pension isn't enough, he needs to help more and the tard is all caught up in trying to act G and he's a fucking nobody. His brother, the one who was visiting was heaps devs, he doesn't know how to get him back on track and he feels responsible coz he gave the bad example when they were younger. That cousin, his name is Lucho, they come from the ghetto here I guess and Lucho was really well known back in the day and respected because he was a crazy kunt and involved in a lot of shaddy shit. He got out of all that now but his lil bro, my fuck up cousin Brian, he's no one, and he acts tough and protects himself by name dropping his bro. But lucho was heaps upset when he was with us, like actually crying coz hes worried they're going to off Brian one of these days and he can't protect his kid bro anymore either coz he got out of that world awhile ago after he got out of jail.
Fucked up shit. But we tried to talk him through it and we're trying to help as much as we can too. Erica, their mum, the one with the tumour, she has a granny flat at the back of her place, so we're helping her fix it up so she can rent it out and at least they'll have a source of income there. Regardless, I enjoyed catching up, family brooo. I don't really have that back in Aus.
A lot of this week was spent running errands with Vero which was lame =.= It never ends. This country is fucked, they keep blocking my mums bank card every 3 withdrawls even though there's plenty of money. They even started blocking her international ones. We keep having to go and unblock them at the bank which takes hours coz mums a fucking idiot and leaves home at midday instead of before the bank opens =.= wastes the entire day. That's all heaps shaddy shit too, the bank says they don't know what's going on and that this never happens. But our closest mate here, he's had a lot of political problems/persecution here and he told us that they used to do the same to him when he first got out of jail and was trying to leave the country (legally). The gov just blocked his cards to try and limit his funds and shit *sigh* but this shits still not over. Dictatorship may have "ended" like 20 years ago but shits still fucked. Anyone involved from shit those years still have stuff like phones tapped and people following them and checking up on what they're doing. It's bullshit. Only this week did they finally transfer a handful of the top dogs charged with crimes against humanity to a real prison. The fucking military coup happened
So one day I was hanging out with Kurt and we realised that there are some pretty wacky sayings in the spanish language.
Each Spanish speaking country has their own sayings, metaphors and similies but these are a few that I have collected over the last year or so.
Every time I hear my mum or grandma say a new one I text Kurt XD It has become somewhat of a little tradition for me now =]
Saying: La negrita astuta vende fruta.
Direct Translation: The (Astute, cunning, sly, crafty, fraudulent) cute/little black girl sells fruit.
Meaning: This saying is said as a sort of warning that you are/someone else is a cocktease
Saying: No calientes el agua (si no vas a tomar té)
Direct Translation: Don't heat the water if you're not going to drink tea
Meaning: This is also a sort of warning to someone who is being a cocktease. Kind of like, don't flirt and lead someone on if you have no intention of hooking up with them. It is also a play on words because in Spanish (Chilean at least) the word calentar (to heat) is also used informally as a way to say 'make horny'. So 'estoy caliente' = I'm hot BUT it means I'm horny. If you wanted to say I'm hot (because of the weather) you would say 'tengo calor'
Tongue Twister: Tres tristes tigres trigo trillaron tranquilos tragaron
Translation: Three sad tigers, wheat they threshed (To separate the grain from the straw or husks by mechanical beating), calmly they swallowed.
Tongue Twister:Pedro Pablo Pérez Pereira pobre pintor portugués pinta paisajes por poca plata para pasar por París
Translation: Pedro Pablo Pérez Pereira poor Portugese painter paints landscapes for little money to pass through Paris.
Saying:Buscarle la quinta pata al gato
Direct Translation:To look for the 5th leg of the cat
Meaning: Looking for problems when there clearly aren't any in that situation, so you're over thinking it and overcomplicating yourself.
Saying: Para ser bella hay que ver estrellas
Direct Translation: To be beautiful you have to see stars
Meaning: I'm guessing this is a fairly old saying because my grandad said it to me once, I kind of fell in love with this little rhyme/mantra. It means that no pain is too great to endure in order to look your best, this particularly refers to women having to wear painful shoes (stilettos) because it makes their legs look hot, wearing tight clothing to show off curves, waxing, plucking, dying hair, and I suppose nowadays you could extend that into getting cosmetic surgery. Just to clarify, my grandad wasn't a dick, I remember the saying coming up because we were watching a show with really attractive women and I was in awe of them and he explained that constructed superficial beauty comes at a price =) Oh and if you don't get the imagery, it's based on seeing "stars" when you hit your head/get dizzy, like if you've ever seen the cartoon representation of stars around the head when they get hit.
